Lecturers and Students of the Faculty of Psychology UIR Enthusiastically Celebrate National Batik Day 2025

Pekanbaru, October 2, 2025 – A different atmosphere could be seen at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Islam Riau (UIR), on Thursday (2/10). Lecturers and students appeared in unison wearing batik attire to commemorate National Batik Day 2025. This activity symbolizes the academic community’s love and pride for Indonesia’s cultural heritage, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009.

Since early morning, students enthusiastically attended their lectures dressed in various batik motifs, ranging from Riau coastal batik to other traditional batik patterns from across the archipelago. Lecturers also joined in the celebration, creating a vibrant and colorful academic atmosphere.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology emphasized that batik is not merely clothing, but also a national identity and source of pride. “By wearing batik, we contribute to preserving our culture and strengthening our identity as Indonesians. This spirit is also essential to instill in psychology students so that they can appreciate cultural heritage while nurturing national pride,” he said.

In addition to wearing batik, the faculty organized a group photo session and an informal discussion on the philosophical meaning behind batik motifs in everyday life. Some students even showcased their family’s batik collections, which carried personal historical and cultural significance.

A fifth-semester student expressed her excitement about the event: “Today feels special because our campus is filled with batik. I feel closer to Indonesian culture and proud to celebrate National Batik Day with my friends,” she said.

The commemoration of National Batik Day at the Faculty of Psychology UIR serves as a moment to strengthen togetherness, foster cultural appreciation, and remind the younger generation about the importance of preserving national heritage amidst modernization.

With this spirit of unity, the academic community of the Faculty of Psychology UIR hopes that this positive tradition will continue every year, ensuring that cultural values and local wisdom remain alive both on campus and in wider society.
