UIR Faculty of Psychology Holds Mental Health Psychoeducation for Students

Pekanbaru – The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) has once again demonstrated its commitment to student well-being by hosting a Mental Health Psychoeducation Series. The session featured the intriguing theme: “Why Does Life Feel Heavy Even When Nothing Is Happening?” The event took place on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Hall of the Faculty of Psychology, 4th Floor, from 09:00 to 11:00 WIB.

Understanding Mental Exhaustion

The session featured Dr. Lisfarika Napitupulu, M.Psi., Psikolog as the keynote speaker. The program aimed to help students understand mental exhaustion that often occurs unnoticed, particularly regarding social environments and relationships—such as friendships, interpersonal conflicts, and the experience of social rejection.

Key Insights and Takeaways

During the event, participants were encouraged to recognize the signs of emotional burnout. Key highlights included:

  • Validation of Feelings: Understanding that feeling “tired” or “heavy” is not a sign of weakness, but rather a psychological signal that needs to be understood and managed healthily.

  • Self-Care Advocacy: The primary message emphasized that seeking help and participating in psychoeducation is an essential form of self-care and mental health awareness.

Event Logistics

Organized by the Applied Psychology Institute of Universitas Islam Riau, the event was limited to 100 participants to ensure an intimate and impactful learning environment. Attendees were provided with snacks and e-certificates as tokens of appreciation for their participation. The high volume of registrations reflected the significant interest and enthusiasm among the student body.

Future Hopes

The Faculty of Psychology hopes that through this psychoeducation series, students will become increasingly aware of the importance of mental health. The goal is for students to be equipped to build healthy social relationships and develop adaptive coping skills to navigate the dynamics of both academic and social life.
